Salter Path and Indian Beach
The traditional fishing communities and recreation havens known as Indian Beach and Salter Path lie west of Atlantic Beach, around milepost 11 on Highway 58.
Salter Path was settled in 1893 by 15 families of fishermen, and it remains home to many descendants still engaged in fishing as a livelihood. Indian Beach surrounds the unincorporated town, creating east and west Indian Beach.
Visitors come to Salter Path for seafood all year long. Local historians contend it was in Salter Path that shrimp found their way onto plates, and out of the trash-fish category.
For kids and their active-adult counterparts, there is windsurfing, kayaking and jet-skiing, while a theme park features mini-golf, bumper boats and go-carts. |
